Bartholomew County Charges Raise Concerns About Minors and Drugs | Avenues Recovery

A Columbus man is facing new charges in a Bartholomew County case involving allegations tied to a 12-year-old girl, marijuana, and online contact. The case has drawn attention because it connects child safety concerns with drug use around minors.

Trynt Dexter Seals, 32, is the defendant named in the court filings. The case dates back nearly three years, but the latest charges have brought it forward again, with prosecutors now pursuing more serious allegations in Bartholomew County.

Investigation Began After DCS Report

The investigation into Trynt Dexter Seals began in August 2023 after a 12-year-old girl spoke with DCS about events at his Columbus apartment. Court records state marijuana use was part of the setting described before local police officially became involved in the case.

The girl had met Seals, 32, earlier that month at a local skate park. They communicated through Snapchat using an account named “daddytrent21.” He allegedly lied about his age in group chats, claiming he was much younger than he actually was.

After the incident, the victim told friends, prompting another juvenile to confront Seals about the serious allegations. Court documents show that Seals immediately deleted his previous Snapchat history, and his mother later canceled a scheduled police interview after he hired a defense lawyer.

Police Reports Describe Apartment Allegations

Columbus police were contacted after the victim’s father reportedly kicked in the apartment door. The girl then gave her account, explaining she returned alone to retrieve a forgotten jacket. That is when Seals allegedly assaulted her.

The girl reported telling Seals ‘no’ and trying to shove him away during the assault. She was unable to leave the apartment until she made up an excuse, saying her aunt would worry. Police described the later allegations as serious.

A friend stated juveniles often went there to smoke weed, noting Seals liked hanging out with younger people. Investigators also noted the alleged warning, “You better not tell anybody,” which prosecutors may use to show pressure and fear.

New Charges, Court Delays, and Possible Penalties

Seals was first charged with sexual misconduct as a Level 4 felony on May 17, 2024, in Bartholomew Circuit Court. Online records show that the initial case was delayed 7 times before the jury trial setting was dismissed.

New charges filed on June 5, 2026, are more serious. They include child molesting as a Level 1 felony, child molesting as a Level 4 felony, sexual misconduct with a minor as a Level 4 felony, and criminal confinement as a Level 5 felony.

Court records show Seals has since been arrested, and prosecutors filed a motion for a greater-than-standard bond. An initial hearing was scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday before Judge Joseph W. Meek, with possible penalties reaching up to 70 years if convicted.

Endnote

Debate around cases involving minors, drugs, and online contact often comes down to prevention before harm is reported. Adults who spend time with young teens outside normal supervision raise questions about boundaries, digital access, and how families, schools, and police respond.

What comes next is a court review of the June 5, 2026 charges, bond arguments, witness statements, and digital evidence issues. Prosecutors will need to prove the allegations despite earlier delays, deleted Snapchat messages, and the dismissed trial setting in Bartholomew County.
