A routine evening stop on Interstate 10 in Calcasieu Parish turned serious when deputies say they spotted drugs inside an SUV from Baton Rouge. What began as a traffic stop quickly grew into a major case involving narcotics, a firearm, and two young passengers.

Authorities estimate the drugs were worth more than $90K on the street, and a spokesperson said investigators moved to search the vehicle after seeing items in plain view. The driver now faces many charges, while the teens were later placed instate care.

What Investigators Say Happened on I-10

According to investigators, the traffic stop took place near 8 p.m. on Jan. 28 on Interstate 10 in Iowa. The Combined Anti-Drug Task Forces topped a Baton Rouge driver during a planned operation, spokesperson Kayla Vincent said, describing events from that night on the highway.

She said deputies talked with the 37-year-old driver and two young passengers, who were 12 and 16. While speaking with them, detectives saw what looked like drugs in plain view, which allowed them to search the SUV under probable cause rules beside the road. The search stayed careful and orderly.

During the search, detectives said they found over five pounds of suspected synthetic marijuana, over a pound of suspected cocaine, promethazine, MDMA pills, and also a gun loaded with a live round. Vincent added the estimated value reached about ninety thousand dollars in their official estimate.

What Deputies Found Inside the SUV

Deputies said the search moved carefully through the SUV, starting in the rear storage space where bags and containers were stacked. According to Kayla Vincent, detectives documented each item as they went, treating the vehicle like a scene that needed slow, methodical work.

Investigators described finding substances stored in different spots, including a black trash bag in the cargo area and containers tucked near everyday items. Vincent said separating and logging everything took time because detectives had to note where each piece was located.

Deputies also reported that one teen had suspected marijuana, and Vincent said the driver told her to get rid of it when the stop began. That detail, she explained, became part of the obstruction and juvenile-related allegations in this case.

Charges, Bond, and What Happens to the Teens

Jordan is now dealing with along list of charges tied to drugs, a gun, and minors nearby. Authorities named possession, intent to distribute, restrictions on felons possessing firearms, obstruction, cruelty to juveniles, and saying he urged minors to distribute drugs here in this case.

His bond was set at one million seven hundred eighty-five thousand five hundred dollars, showing the court takes the allegations very seriously. Vincent shared that he is a convicted felon and still on probation through January 2026, officials confirmed, as they spoke about his status.

The two teenagers were not booked for these charges, and officers focused more on their safety right away. Vincent explained they went into state custody under the Department of Children and Family Services while the legal case gets sorted, as adults continue handling it now.

Endnote

When something like this happens, it brings up questions about drugs, duty, and protecting young people while traveling. A few residents want firmer policing, but others talk more about prevention and family care, reminding everyone the concern stretches past one stop and past one person.

Officers explain that cases like these can take a while, and Vincent has noted that sharing information and checking facts is important as the process goes on. Court meetings and child safety reviews will influence what follows, as the public watches how fairness and protection are weighed.
