A quiet neighborhood in La Plata, Maryland became the center of a major law enforcement operation when Charles County detectives executed a search warrant that uncovered a stash of illegal drugs, unregistered firearms, and so-called “ghost guns.” The raid, carried out on May 30, marks one of the most “substantial” busts the area has seen in recent years, according to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office.

According to ABC 7 news, the target of the operation was Bruce Robinson, 57, whose home on the 7700 block of Weatherly Place was found to contain a significant amount of illicit substances. Detectives recovered hundreds of Oxycodone pills, Suboxone strips, amphetamine tablets, and a quantity of cocaine—all with an estimated street value of roughly $6,400.

But the drugs weren’t the only alarming discovery.

Inside the home, authorities also found a small arsenal: three handguns, three rifles, and two shotguns. Several of the weapons were unregistered, and investigators confirmed that at least some were “ghost guns”—untraceable firearms built from kits, often purchased online, and assembled without serial numbers or background checks.

Ghost guns have increasingly drawn attention from lawmakers and law enforcement alike due to their use in crimes and their appeal to those looking to circumvent gun regulations. Their presence in this bust further highlights the growing concern over how easily they can be obtained and stockpiled.

Robinson was arrested on the scene and charged with eight counts of weapons violations, five counts of drug/narcotics violations, and one count of possession of drug equipment. Surprisingly, just days later on June 2, a judge ordered Robinson’s release from the Charles County Detention Center under electronic monitoring.

For the residents of Charles County, the bust is a sobering reminder that the opioid crisis and the rise of illegal firearms are not issues confined to cities or distant news stories—they’re happening right in their own communities.
