Alex VanGeffen serves as the Clinical Director of Avenues Recovery Center at Baton Rouge. Originally from New Orleans, Louisiana, he brings both professional expertise and personal passion to his role. Alex earned his B.A in Psychology from the University of New Orleans, and a Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Holy Cross.
Alex began his career in the addiction treatment field while completing his graduate studies in New Orleans—a path that felt both natural and deeply meaningful. Having grown up with close exposure to the disease of addiction, and as someone personally affected by it within his own family, Alex developed deep empathy for those struggling to find recovery. After several years serving indigenous native communities in rural Alaska, he felt called to return home to Louisiana to continue his work in addiction treatment. Joining Avenues at Baton Rouge, he sees his work as both a professional calling and a personal mission to bring healing, understanding, and hope to those affected by addiction.
Alex lives in Baton Rouge with his partner and their young daughter. In his free time, he enjoys playing guitar on a semi-professional basis, traveling, hiking and climbing. He's also a great fan of cross-country road trips.
