Christy Cotton serves as a Primary Counselor at Avenues Recovery Center at Norfolk. Originally from Detroit, she earned her degree in Human Services from Old Dominion University, along with a Career Studies Certificate in Addiction Prevention and Treatment. She is a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) and Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), currently working toward her CSAC Supervisor credential and pursuing acceptance into Norfolk State University’s LCSW undergraduate program.
Christy was drawn to this field through both personal experience and a deep desire to help others. Growing up exposed to substance use, she developed a strong sense of empathy and made a lifelong commitment to supporting individuals facing similar challenges. Her approach is rooted in compassion, integrity, and respect, with a focus on treating the whole person—physically, mentally, spiritually, and emotionally.
Outside of work, Christy enjoys traveling and spending time outdoors. Above all, she treasures time with her children and two grandsons, who keep her grounded and inspired.
