Kerri McTarsney serves as a Primary Counselor at Avenues Recovery Center at Indianapolis. Originally from West Covina, California, she now considers Olympia, Washington home after spending more than two decades there. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from The Evergreen State College and also holds a CADAC II certification.
Kerri’s path into addiction treatment is both unique and deeply personal. After a successful career in the newsprint industry, she transitioned into corrections work after moving to Washington State. During that time, she was a "late bloomer" and developed her own struggles with opiates and alcohol. Following treatment and recovery, Kerri felt called to help others facing similar challenges and began her career as an Addictions Counselor for the Recovery While Incarcerated (RWI) program through the Indiana Department of Correction. Her lived experience gives her a compassionate, authentic understanding of the recovery journey.
Outside of work, Kerri enjoys life with her wife, whom she met while working at a maximum-security correctional facility. Married since 2012, they share their home with a Sheepadoodle named Bo and a cat named Camo. Her personal motto is simple: “Be grateful.”
