Maya Cooper serves as a primary counselor at Avenues Recovery Center at Metairie. Hailing from Kansas City, Minnesota, she is a Registered Addictions Counselor (RAC) with over seven years of experience in the field. Maya earned her certification from Sober College School of Addiction Studies, and is currently advancing her education with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.
For Maya, addiction counseling is more than a career—it’s a calling rooted in personal experience. Growing up in a home affected by substance abuse, and later being fostered and then adopted, she understands the deep pain, confusion, and impact addiction can have on individuals and families. Surrounded by the love of 15 adopted siblings, she learned early on the power of resilience, support, and second chances.
In her own words: "When given the opportunity to support people and families affected by addiction, I took it as a personal challenge—just to see if I could truly make a difference. What began as a test quickly evolved into a meaningful and fulfilling career that has now spanned over seven years. I am passionate about addiction counseling because... I’ve watched lives transform, families heal, and individuals rediscover hope and purpose. Being part of that process continues to inspire and motivate me every day."
Outside of work, Maya enjoys staying active through sports, and traveling. She brings heart, honesty, and unwavering commitment to every person and family she supports on the road to recovery.
