Rizwan Ali, MD, DFAPA is the Medical Director of Avenues Recovery Center at Richmond. A longtime Richmond resident, Dr. Ali completed his psychiatry residency at Virginia Commonwealth University (formerly the Medical College of Virginia), where he developed a strong foundation in treating individuals with complex mental health and substance use disorders.
Dr. Ali is passionate about addiction medicine because of the profound transformation it makes possible. He believes recovery extends far beyond physical health, allowing individuals to rebuild their relationships, improve their mental and spiritual well-being, regain financial stability, and rediscover purpose. His approach to care is compassionate, comprehensive, and centered on treating the whole person.
Outside of work, Dr. Ali loves spending time with his wife and their four beautiful children. He enjoys singing, writing poetry, and cooking for family and friends.
