Executive Director

Selwa Yatim-Badra

Selwa Yatim-Badra serves as the Executive Director at Avenues Extended Care at Norfolk. Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, she moved to Arizona as a teen. She earned her bachelor’s degrees in Political Science and Psychology from Northern Arizona University, followed by a Master of Social Work from Norfolk State University.

Selwa was drawn to the field of addiction treatment after witnessing firsthand the profound impact substance use can have on individuals and their families. That experience sparked both her curiosity and her commitment to being part of the solution. She approaches her work with empathy, persistence, and a deep belief in the potential for change—meeting people with compassion, truly listening, and refusing to give up on them, even when they may feel like giving up on themselves. For Selwa, making a meaningful difference in her community is both a calling and a privilege.

Outside of her professional role, Selwa is a proud military spouse and mom to two young daughters. She values (very) early mornings, often starting her day around 4 and heading to the gym at 5 before enjoying a quiet cup of coffee. In her downtime, she loves reading - especially fantasy - as a way to recharge and unwind.
