Hi, my name is Jessica. I'm an alumnus of Avenues at Dublin.
Things started unraveling pretty quickly and I couldn't control my drinking. It was all day, every day, very rapidly. I've been so trained that social interaction is easier or more comfortable or more fun with a drink in my hand. Connecting with other people that are experiencing the same thing that I am, or have been in it longer, has been crucial to my sobriety. I will definitely carry that through my recovery, through my life, because it's a completely different support system.
It is scary. I think it's scary for everyone, but it's okay. And the fear doesn't last forever and the anger doesn't last forever. Being able to connect with people that were also in my age group with similar experiences was really helpful.
