Avenues Recovery Center located in the Eastern Shore of Maryland is truly a one of a kind facility. We offer multiple levels of care to support clients in various stages of addiction recovery. Our primary focus is on our 60-day dual diagnosis treatment program, rebuilding clients throughout the stages, from helplessness through stability. At Avenues, we treat the whole person – body, mind, and spirit, you will receive personalized care in a clean, modern, hotel like setting. Life skills, wellness, nutrition, social acceptance, financial responsibilities, and family values are all key components of our treatment plans. As our clients progress so does the individualized care. We follow an intense clinical curriculum and have a reputation for helping those that have tried elsewhere previously. The extended care program carries on beyond the traditional 30 days to be able to put sincere focus on any underlying mental health disorder.

The Avenues Recovery team is acutely qualified for the most at risk and vulnerable, staffed with a full-time physician, psychiatrist, and licensed therapists and counselors. Our Medical Director takes great pride in his ability to customize care plans from the complex to the beginner, Vivitrol, Subutex, and the new Sublocade injection, are staples in our treatment methodology. Our case managers will address any legal, family, or FMLA complications, and most of all focus on workforce reentry.

Avenues Recovery Center at Eastern Shore is located on a sprawling campus with state of the art 104 bed facility and gender specific wings. Our facility offers the ability to sleep, treat, and eat all under one roof, the loving coziness and warmth is the constant feedback from our clients. We offer onsite gym, recreation room, lounge, and laundry facility, with nutritious hot catered meals twice daily. Residential treatment offers the opportunity to engage clinical and medical treatment while residing out of familiar surroundings and potentially unstable environments.

Joe’s extensive background as an entrepreneur and leader in the eldercare and real estate fields, coupled with a passion for helping others and a deep respect for the recovery community, make him the ideal Executive Director for Avenues Recovery Center at Eastern Shore.
With an unusually cosmopolitan and diverse past, whether it was traveling the globe or teaching Russian students, Joe is deeply passionate about all that he does. He brings this passion to work every day, (along with his signature socks), and lifts the entire staff to deliver better and kinder treatment.
Joe is deep, insightful, and never boring, making him the perfect person to establish a meaningful rapport with clients and help them along on their recovery journey.
Kaitlyn, our Clinical Supervisor, comes to Avenues with 8 years of field experience in social work. Her career began in the Boston area, working with Transitional Aged Youth teenage mothers and emotionally disturbed children and their families.
In 2014 she re-located to the Eastern Shore of Maryland to complete her Advanced Standing Master of Social Work program at Salisbury University. Her career path has included stellar work in the correctional system and eventually as a mental health therapist for co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders, with expertise in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Kaitlyn’s skillset has been on display wherever she has been. She excels in crisis management, de-escalation, group therapy, family therapy, community coordination, clinical treatment team collaboration along with numerous other creative modalities to effectively assist patients with varied mental statuses on an individual level.
She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker-Certified and a Maryland Board Approved Supervisor through the Board of Counselors and Therapists, as well as through the Board of Social Work. She received a Level 1 Trauma Certificate through the Ferentz Institute in 2016 and continues to be passionate about the impact that trauma brings to the fields of mental health and addictions.
Throughout her career Kaitlyn has had the honor of working with many types of students in their internships including future Social Workers, Nurse Practitioners, and Physician Assistants. Kaitlyn has a genuine love for the all-encompassing field of Social Work. It gives her the ability to utilize creativity with compassion in non-traditional ways. She looks forward to cultivating a balanced, healthy, and team-driven community in the newest Avenues facility on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
A New Jersey native, Mark has relocated to Maryland to join the team at Avenues as Program Director on the Eastern Shore.
Driven by a passion to make a difference, Mark left a successful career in sales and began working in the addiction field in 2014. He took a position as a behavioral health tech and returned to school for his master’s degree.
During his fruitful time at Rutgers University, Mark earned his Master of Social Work, completed a highly competitive Addiction Counselor Training (ACT) Certificate Program, gained a NAADAC Fellowship and was inducted into the Phi Alpha honor society.
Mark gained experience through work and internships with detoxification units, short-term and long-term residential units, partial care programs and intensive outpatient and outpatient programs. He is currently licensed as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC).
As a highly motivated, energetic individual with a passion for working in the field of addictions, Mark was quickly promoted, first as a counselor, and was on his way to spending four years as a full-time clinician and working in administration since 2019. His last position was Assistant Clinical Director managing all day-to-day clinical operations for 125 patients in a partial care/intensive outpatient program in New Jersey.
Mark’s approach to client care seeks to find the delicate balance for extending the utmost compassion and empathy while setting firm boundaries. In his treatment process, he incorporates all internal and external resources including developing proper coping skills, addressing trauma, and integrating families and 12-step recovery are essential for achieving long-lasting, meaningful recovery. He believes in a strengths-based, solution focused approach, and incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing.
Mark is guided by the firm belief that no challenge cannot be overcome and a focus on looking for “solutions not problems.”
Travis Roberts, MSN, FNP-C, Nurse Practitioner, is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner with the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). He graduated with an Associate of Science in nursing in 2013 from the College of Southern Maryland and a Master of Science in nursing with a specialty of Family Nurse Practitioner from Chamberlain School of Nursing and is currently enrolled at Regis Catholic University to pursue dual certification in psychiatric mental health.
Travis works tirelessly in our community to help those wishing for a lifestyle of recovery. His holistic approach coupled with medication assisted therapy teaches patients the importance of self-advocacy for their continued health during recovery from substance abuse.
Victoria has more than 10 years’ experience in the mental health and addictions fields. While she grew up in Detroit, Michigan, she has resided on Maryland’s beautiful Eastern Shore for the better part of a decade. Her career arc began as a case management specialist working with youth in juvenile detention facilities.
Following that, she graduated from Central Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Youth Studies with a concentration in Substance Abuse. Victoria worked in crisis intervention and suicide prevention in her early career and has extensive training and certification in these areas.
She has continued education in Crisis Across the Lifespan, with a special interest in Generational Trauma and Mental Health Disorders. Victoria also has many years of experience working with homeless populations and at-risk youth.
Her exceptional work has been recognized with the Crystal Hero and the National Hopeline Network Community Crisis Center Hero awards. Victoria received her Master of Human Services Counseling; Addictions & Recovery from Liberty University in 2020.
In her spare time, she likes to read, garden, and enjoy time with her husband and 3 children.
Matthew graduated from Chesapeake College in May of 2020 with an Associate Degree of Health and Human Services with a focus on Substance Abuse Counseling. He is currently in the process of obtaining his CSC-AD.
Matt has worked in the addiction field for over four years as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor and has been the Operations Manager at several recovery houses on the Eastern Shore. He developed a passion for helping people with substance abuse disorders after battling addiction himself. Matt is very involved in the recovery community and uses his success in long term recovery, along with training through college, to ensure that his clients get the best treatment experience possible. Matt is also passionate about sports, exercise and spending quality time with family.
As a person in long term recovery, her passion and desire to help others with substance use disorders led her to pursuing a professional career in the field. She graduated with honors from Chesapeake College, earning an Associates of Applied Science degree in Human Services with concentration in Mental Health, and is currently working towards obtaining her CSC-AD with the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors.
Shelley completed an internship at Warwick Manor and Chesapeake Treatment Services, gaining the knowledge that “one size does not fit all on the road to sobriety.” She focuses on therapeutic methodologies of 12 step program, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing to assist client with tools for a new way of life.
With respect and empathy built on a therapeutic relationship of trust, she has worked with clients for the past four years at Chesapeake Treatment Services and recently joined the team of caring, passionate, and driven professionals at Avenues Recovery Center at Eastern Shore.
Shelley is active in her NA/AA community by sponsoring others and attending meetings. She has a strong faith-based program where she finds peace and serenity while spending time at Lewes Beach with her Golden Retriever in tow. She has developed strong connections and support with the women in her life including her daughter, family, and friends.
Joe Bryan, ADT, Counselor, graduated from Salisbury University in 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts in Conflict Analysis and Dispute Resolution and is currently completing addictions counseling classes at Anne Arundel Community College in pursuit of his CAC-AD.
Joe has worked in the residential drug and alcohol abuse treatment field for two and a half years. He ensures that clients are well-acclimated to their programs and that they have what they need to get the most out of their time in treatment.
Joe has a passion for helping people with addiction and alcoholics experience a better way of life in recovery. He also enjoys playing music and raising his son.
