Marijuana Recall in Colorado Raises Health and Safety Concerns

Colorado officials issued a health and safety advisory after contaminated marijuana was identified at several dispensaries, prompting a recall tied to pesticide levels above allowed limits. The affected products were sold across multiple locations, raising immediate concerns.

The marijuana was produced by Levels IV INC, which worked with regulators to launch a voluntary recall after additional testing confirmed the issue. Authorities said the batches had passed initial checks, but later results showed contamination that could lead to symptoms if consumed.

What Triggered The Recall

The recall began after regulators took a closer look at products that had already passed initial testing. Investigators raised concerns about laboratory practices, which led the Colorado Department of Revenue and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment to order additional analysis.

That second round of testing changed everything. Officials found the marijuana exceeded limits for chlorfenapyr, a pesticide regulated under Colorado Marijuana Rule 4-215. Once those results came in, the batches were no longer considered safe for sale or consumption.

Chlorfenapyr is commonly used to kill insects, but it carries risks when ingested. According to health officials, exposure can lead to nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain, depending on the amount, which is why strict limits exist in the first place.

Where The Products Were Sold

The contaminated marijuana was sold across Colorado, with locations spread between Denver, Northglenn, Aurora, Broomfield, and Colorado Springs. This wide distribution meant the affected batches were not limited to one area, increasing the number of potential consumers exposed.

Among the stores identified were Spark Dispensary in Denver, listed twice in the advisory, along with Doc’s Apothecary in Northglenn and JARS Cannabis in Aurora. The Dab in Broomfield and Bleezies in Colorado Springs were also included in the recall notice.

According to state agencies, these products were sold between Sept. 9, 2025, and March 26, 2026, giving them months in circulation before the issue was identified. That timeline raises concern because customers may still have the affected batches at home.

How Consumers Can Check And Respond

The first step is checking the label on any marijuana purchased during the affected period. State agencies said consumers should look for cultivation license number 403R-00235 and batch names ROOM 2-A 6/17 or ROOM 2-B 6/17 to confirm whether products are impacted.

If a match is found, officials recommend not using the product under any circumstances. Customers should either destroy it or return it to the dispensary where it was purchased, following guidance from the Colorado Department of Revenue and public health officials.

Anyone experiencing symptoms after using these products should seek medical attention right away and report the issue to the Marijuana Enforcement Division. Experts also advise regularly checking state advisories, since not all states maintain consistent public recall systems.

Endnote

Incidents like this continue to raise questions about how consistent cannabis testing really is across the state, especially when products pass initial checks and only fail later reviews. Some consumers trust the system, while others now question how often issues go unnoticed.

The bigger issue may be oversight itself. Because cannabis remains illegal at the federal level, agencies like the FDA do not track these products, leaving states to manage recalls individually, which can create gaps in how quickly risks are identified and communicated.
