FOX 8’s Joni Holder sat down with Avenues Recovery’s Regional Executive Director Matt Engler to highlight the fifth year doing a sober safe spot initiative that is offered for the community during Mardi Gras celebrations. The sober safe spot provides a designated, substance-free environment where people in recovery—or anyone choosing sobriety—can enjoy the festivities without the pressure of alcohol and other substances. This community-focused option aims to support long-term wellness by giving participants a comfortable place to connect, celebrate, and stay committed to their recovery goals. By blending fun with intentional support, the initiative underscores the importance of inclusive recovery resources and compassionate care during major cultural events.
