AVENUES INTENSIVE OUTPATIENT PROGRAMS

The real world. The right way.

Cement your sobriety with Avenues’ world-class intensive outpatient program. Unparalleled support, guidance, and love as you meet the real world with confidence and poise

What is an intensive outpatient program?

An intensive outpatient program is a step-down level of care often used to treat drug and alcohol addiction and mental illness. It’s similar to partial hospitalization (PHP) programs, but more relaxed because it runs for fewer hours per day and week. Just like in PHP, clients in an IOP program live at home (or in a sober living home) but return to their treatment center for therapy each day.

Intensive outpatient programs are ideal for people who no longer need the intensive treatment schedule of a PHP program but still want support as they ease back to everyday life. Avenues Recovery’s IOP program lets such people really begin living again – working, attending school, and tending to personal responsibilities while still benefitting from structured treatment. IOP treatment serves as a critical bridge between treatment and the outside world, helping clients ease seamlessly into life after rehab.

You may need IOP treatment if…

You have cravings for drugs and/or alcohol but are not in immediate danger of relapse

You have mild mental health disorders (like anxiety, depression etc.) which make it hard for you to stay sober on your own

You’ve recently relapsed or are in very early recovery

Your home environment or social circle is not fully supportive of recovery

You’ve recently completed PHP treatment and now need a step-down level of care

This is by far the best PHP/IOP that I have been through. The staff are awesome. They relate to you on a personal level like peers rather than addicts. It's longer than most programs but it's definitely worth it. I would have stayed longer than the 4 months but unfortunately, I was ready to move on 😩. If you want it to be your last program and if you’re serious and ready to live a life of recovery, then choose Avenues.

Avenues is truly a place to recover and advance your life for the better if you so choose to. The care they give is top notch, and the therapists were my real go-tos. A complete game changer in my life and if I could've stayed longer I would have. I commend all the staff for lovingly doing their jobs with the well-being of the clients always coming first. No other facility I'd rather recommend. Thank you for changing my life.

I can’t express enough how much of an impact this place has had on my life. I had the best experience connecting with peers and staff. Avenues Recovery Center is a very fine facility. The groups transformed my life. The staff is amazing and work hard, very hard for my recovery. Their program includes : Lots of fun activities over the weekends. Science, emotional and spiritual sessions. Nutrition, self care and finances. Several tools to keep you motivated, focused and engaged with the Anonymous community. Their one on one sessions are very intimate and engaging, be prepared to be vulnerable! I am so thankful for Avenues for the continued support after leaving. Thank you Avenues for changing my life ❤️

I spent 65 days here as part of the extended stay program and it was absolutely amazing. Life changing to say the least! The staff is out of this world. From the BHTs to the kitchen staff to therapists to the nurses and even the maintenance guys. They are all amazing and will be there for you every step of the way. The people you are here with are like a brotherhood and they all take care of one another and support each other through everything. So if you're looking to start a better life without drugs and alcohol I would recommend you come to Avenues. You won't find anywhere better I promise you that!!

Avenues saved my life and taught me how to be a better person for my family and myself. The staff and instructors are incredibly compassionate and knowledgeable about what it takes to overcome the disease of addiction. The alumni coordinator has a unique and profound way of simplifying the steps to recovery that makes the healing process seem obtainable. I have hope and confidence I will continue to work the program and stay sober.

Questions are normal - like:

What is IOP treatment?

IOP (Intensive Outpatient Program) treatment for substance abuse is a structured form of care that allows people to get serious support and therapy while still living at home.

Here’s what it means in simple terms:

  • You attend treatment several days a week (often 3–5 days), for a few hours each day.
  • It’s designed for people who don’t need 24/7 care but still need more support than just seeing a therapist once a week.
  • IOP helps you build coping skills, stay accountable, and continue recovery while managing work, school, or family life.

IOP programs are often used as a step-down from inpatient rehab.

How long does IOP substance abuse treatment last?

It’s hard to estimate exactly how long IOP substance abuse treatment takes, since treatment is always customized to the individual, and a client will remain in IOP until they are ready to move on to a lower level of care. But the average length of IOP (for most people) is two to three months.

How many hours a day is the average intensive outpatient treatment program?

In an intensive outpatient program, clinical programming lasts about three and a half hours a day. Flexible night options are always available for those with conflicting schedules.

What is the average intensive outpatient program cost?

The cost of an Intensive Outpatient Program will vary for each individual, since it depends on the type of insurance they have and the amount of time they require in this specific level of care. Most Avenues facilities accept Medicaid and commercial insurances, as well as private pay. If you’d like to learn more, our business office will be glad to answer all of your questions, provide an individualized cost estimate, or discuss payment options with you.

Can I work while in an intensive outpatient program?

Yes! A large part of our IOP program focuses on workforce re-integration. Your case manager will support you through all stages of the process – from seeking employment to drafting resumes, to applying for jobs and practicing for interviews.

Can I drive while in an intensive outpatient program for substance abuse?

If you own a vehicle and would like to begin driving again once in IOP, please speak to your primary therapist about exploring this option.

What’s the difference between an IOP program and PHP?

The difference between an intensive outpatient program for mental health and Partial Hospitalization is that an IOP program is a less intensive level of care than PHP. This means that when transferring to IOP, you will not be under clinical supervision for as many hours each day, which will give you more free time and enable you to begin looking for a job and working if you so wish.

How do I find an intensive outpatient program near me?

If you’re looking for quality IOP programs near me, having an open discussion with your primary care physician or a mental health professional who understands you and your needs can be a great start. They can provide quality and targeted recommendations of local IOP programs.
