An intensive outpatient program is a step-down level of care often used to treat drug and alcohol addiction and mental illness. It’s similar to partial hospitalization (PHP) programs, but more relaxed because it runs for fewer hours per day and week. Just like in PHP, clients in an IOP program live at home (or in a sober living home) but return to their treatment center for therapy each day.
Intensive outpatient programs are ideal for people who no longer need the intensive treatment schedule of a PHP program but still want support as they ease back to everyday life. Avenues Recovery’s IOP program lets such people really begin living again – working, attending school, and tending to personal responsibilities while still benefitting from structured treatment. IOP treatment serves as a critical bridge between treatment and the outside world, helping clients ease seamlessly into life after rehab.
