Hi, I'm Amy, and I'm an alumnus of Avenues Recovery Center at Norfolk, Virginia.
So, what made me want to do things differently in my life was my daughter. My daughter hasn't been in my life for almost eight years now because of my addiction. I've destroyed my life because of my addiction.
I was ready for a change. I was nervous, scared, but excited at the same time. The people that I talked to on the phone in admissions were super, super supportive, full of all the information that I needed. They had all of the answers to my questions. They calmed my fears.
I even called back and tried to cancel my ride, but they wouldn't let me do it. They told me, “No, this is where you need to be. This is what your daughter wants you to do, so let's come in.” They convinced me to let go of my fears and give it a shot. The fact that they cared so much about my recovery made me want to stay and really work on my recovery. Everybody helped me with hygiene items and clothing items and things that I didn't have that I needed. You know, they were super, they became an instant family.
My daughter is going to be 14 in October. So I'm actually starting to rebuild my relationship with her, and it's a beautiful thing. You know, I love my daughter and I'm doing this for her, and she tells me that she's proud of me. So I'm excited to rebuild a relationship with her and hopefully to become her mom again. That's the ultimate goal. That was the whole purpose of doing this. I'm sorry.
If my daughter could say anything to Avenues, it would probably be, “Thank you for giving me my mom back.”
If you are looking at coming to Avenues or any rehab center, this is the one that you need to come to. No matter if you're scared, if you're worried, you think you're not ready, or you think you don't have the things you need or the support, just forget all of that. Pick up the phone, make the phone call. This is a family. They will change your life.
