CBS News: A facility that was once a nursing home is now helping people overcome addiction. Avenues Recovery Center is a premier drug and alcohol rehabilitation network with locations across the country. Their new Colorado location is already a vital resource for those struggling in Aurora.

Avenues Recovery Center’s newest facility, Avenues Recovery Center at Denver, enjoyed a visit by Tori Mason of CBS News earlier this week. Tori spoke with Lindzee Lewis, one of the very first alumni of Avenues Denver, and was given a facility tour by clinical director Charice Putnam.

Addiction is a devastating disease, and the populations hit hardest by it – those who are homeless or well beneath the poverty index – often have no way of accessing the care they so desperately need. Avenues is looking to change this narrative by offering gold-standard substance use disorder treatment to every individual, regardless of their financial bracket. In line with their mission, Avenues accepts all Medicaid insurances in addition to commercial insurance and private pay. As a result, their clientele spans every race, gender, ethnicity, and socioeconomic class.

In the words of clinical director Charice Putnam, “We have folks that are coming to us who are homeless; we have folks coming to us who have Master’s degrees.”

This new residential treatment facility has a 130-bed capacity, and it stands as a valuable addition and powerful new force in the desperate battle against addiction in the Denver-Aurora metropolitan area.

Lindzee Lewis shared with CBS News, “Addiction is rough; it’s very rough. But if you want it bad enough, you can do it.”

There is hope and healing for everyone.
