It’s hard to leave when the time is ready but it’s bitter sweet because I truly was more prepared than I’ve ever been. I am an addict and I am not ashamed to admit that. I went in with the intention to heal. I had been holding in not only my drug/alcohol abuse, I was also holding onto my childhood trauma. Avenues was not easy in the sense that I now had to face reality. But the strength that I have developed from going there is priceless. The fact that they approach the mind, body and spirit is so important to my healing journey. I felt encouragement from everyone on staff there. I felt like a person, not a statistic. I felt listened to and my biggest piece of advice is listen to their advice. I had no idea how much aftercare is available until I was in rehab. I highly recommend aftercare and advocating for yourself. But remember that it's not a race, this is an every day healing journey. Communication is key, and I learned this plus how to love myself at Avenues. Thank you to everyone that was a part of my journey.read less
