Professional Track

Avenues Recovery Center of Bucks County offers a substance abuse treatment program specifically geared toward individuals who are licensed and/or monitored by a state body to ensure their safety and safety of the general public whom they serve. The Professional Track serves dentists, nurses, pharmacists, pilots, lawyers, and other licensed professionals whose addiction creates additional career-related concerns. These individuals will be evaluated by a clinician specifically trained in substance abuse treatment among this population and receive treatment in the company of other professionals.

Professionals often share similar issues – they have full careers and family responsibilities that may be in jeopardy — in contrast to younger clients experiencing a vastly different array of difficulties. Healthcare professionals, in particular, may have difficulty asking for help because they are accustomed to being the healer and carry a lot of shame and guilt in association with their addiction. Our Professional Track counselors will provide detailed recommendations for clinical care, a back-to-work assessment with recommendations regarding fitness to practice, and a summary for the employer, monitoring board, or other professional contacts where required.

Team

Avenues Recovery Center at Bucks offers the most patient-centered clinical treatment available.

The Avenues Recovery team is acutely qualified for the most at risk and vulnerable, staffed with a full-time physician, psychiatrist, and licensed counselors. Our case managers will address any legal, family, or FMLA complications, and most of all focus on workforce reentry.

Dr. Piperata is a licensed psychologist trained in the scientist-practitioner model with over 30 years of experience supporting the needs of individuals and families presenting with substance use disorders and other mental health struggles. In support of the Avenues Recovery mission, Dr. Piperata fosters a team approach focused on “identifying challenges as clinical opportunities to maximize each client’s recovery potential”.  She incorporates 12-Step program principles, mindfulness/meditation and spirituality, comedy, music, dancing, creative writing, and recreational/sporting activities to complement traditional evidence-based therapeutic practices. Her professional and personal journeys provide evidence that long-term recovery is possible when appropriate interventions and extended, compassionate care are available and accepted.

Shawn has over 15 years in the medical field and holds dual master’s as an Acute and Family Nurse Practitioner. She has broad and extensive experience in ICU Trauma, emergency medicine, surgery, geriatric, internal medicine, and in/outpatient psychiatry.

Fairly new to the area, and originally from Colorado, Shawn has lived in well over 15 states. She has personal experience with multiple loved ones losing the fight and their lives to substance abuse, and the feeling of helplessness that follows.

It has been one of her aspirations to offer support to those in need in a safe environment. She believes that a collaborative approach to treatment gives clients the best chance at success.

Warren has more than 8 years of experience in the addiction recovery field after going through his own personal journey out of addiction. He has been clean and sober now for more than 11 years. Prior to joining Avenues Recovery, Warren worked in a hospital setting, treated individuals with addiction disorders. Believing that the best successes in recovery are achieved through a team effort, he uses a motivational style of therapy combined with cognitive behavioral therapy to foster personal growth and spiritual development. Warren structures his own life around recovery based activities and helps his clients learn to do the same.

Mike Mancuso is a Certified Addictions Counselor as well as a Certified Recovery Specialist. For the past nine years Mike has worked in the field helping individuals with both co-occurring and substance use disorders. Mike has had extensive training in the mental health field and was the recipient of the 2015 Loren H. Crabtree Innovation in Recovery Award. Mike emphasizes that relationships are essential in building strong foundations in both treatment and recovery in order to sustain long-term abstinence. Mike’s unique, strength-based approach encompasses the idea of finding “the diamond in the rough” and uses that as a tool in promoting healthy growth.

Throughout my years of experience working in the mental health field, I’ve learned the need for help comes in all shapes and forms. I have been blessed with the opportunity to work as a primary therapist in addictions for the past 8 years. I graduated with a BA in Behavioral Health summa cum laude. I am honored to walk the journey with my patients to assist them with getting back to the healthiest version of themselves. I specialize in working with individuals with addiction issues, depression, anxiety, mood disorders and overcoming trauma. I take a diverse therapeutic approach incorporating cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), trauma focused care, motivational interviewing (MI) and psychodynamics. Trauma occurs in so many ways and impacts our ability to cope: often we cannot understand why we are struggling, just that something needs to change. It is my hope that all the individuals I work with not only find peace but relish in the fact that all their dreams and goals are attainable. I am here to assist them in transforming their lives with purpose!
