    Professional Track

Avenues Recovery Center of Bucks County offers a substance abuse treatment program specifically geared toward individuals who are licensed and/or monitored by a state body to ensure their safety and safety of the general public whom they serve. The Professional Track serves dentists, nurses, pharmacists, pilots, lawyers, and other licensed professionals whose addiction creates additional career-related concerns. These individuals will be evaluated by a clinician specifically trained in substance abuse treatment among this population and receive treatment in the company of other professionals.

Professionals often share similar issues – they have full careers and family responsibilities that may be in jeopardy — in contrast to younger clients experiencing a vastly different array of difficulties. Healthcare professionals, in particular, may have difficulty asking for help because they are accustomed to being the healer and carry a lot of shame and guilt in association with their addiction. Our Professional Track counselors will provide detailed recommendations for clinical care, a back-to-work assessment with recommendations regarding fitness to practice, and a summary for the employer, monitoring board, or other professional contacts where required.

Joseph Kane, LSW, LSW, CADC, CCTP, Clinical Director, is a native of Scranton Pennsylvania and began working in the field of mental health in 2005. During this time, Joseph’s own addiction had devastating effects on his life and the lives of those of his family and friends. After two failed attempts at getting sober, Joe entered his third rehab, surrendered to the powerlessness of addiction, and became willing to go to any length to achieve sobriety. At 90 days sober, a friend of his passed away from a heroin overdose, and at the funeral service he remembers the priest asking the congregation, “What are you going to do to honor your friend’s memory?” It was at this moment that Joe knew his answer was to stay sober and help other people who suffered from addiction. He began working in the drug and alcohol field in 2011 and soon became clinical director of an inpatient facility, at which time he also earned his MSW from Marwood University. Joe began at Avenues Recovery in February of 2019 and brings with him a unique style of clinical expertise that incorporates a variety of treatment approaches and disciplines. He lives with his wife Trish and 2 children, Payton and Ben. Joseph’s favorite part of working in drug and alcohol treatment is seeing a person’s sense of blossom into the realistic hope that they, too, can recover.

She also has experience working with couples and families. Seeing her clients experience a life that brings them happiness and meaning, truly gives her joy. Her main therapeutic approach is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy; however, she integrates Choice Theory, Mindfulness, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Person-Centered and Positive Psychology techniques as needed. She also utilizes Motivational Interviewing.

Aside from her counseling experience, she is recently engaged. She enjoys volunteering with the homeless population, and she’s been active in motivational speaking for over fifteen years. She also enjoys participating in new and unique experiences as often as she can.

    What our alumni are saying

I was referred by my current AA sponsor to come to Avenues Recovery center for continued treatment after my detoxification program. When I arrived I had no clue what it would be like but I knew I needed a change and Avenues gave me exactly that. From the start everyone, clients included, were so friendly and welcoming. At first it was a tough transition because it was new to me but everyone there provided me with a comfortable environment from which to start my process of healing. When I was finally brought to the residence they provide I was surprised. The house was HUGE! and their was so much room to stretch out and get comfortable (there is also a pool which I took full advantage of when it opened up in the summer). At first I was apprehensive because I was not used to living with other people but everyone welcomed me with open arms and a true sense of empathy for someone new coming in and starting this process. There was also plenty of food options at the house and the housing staff worked with my dietary needs as my diet changed. The daily groups provided me with a safe place to learn and share about my experiences. The clinical staff was amazing and went above and beyond to get me prepared for the real world.

Avenues Recovery center is a remarkable destination for anyone seeking treatment from the disease of addiction. I first arrived at avenues a year ago completely broken and hopeless. Living a productive life seemed nearly impossible until i walked through their doors. During my stay at Avenues, I learned how to have fun in my sobriety, I was able to get my self esteem back, and let go of all the shame and guilt I carried as a result of my addiction. I have to thank the staff at Avenues for believing in me when i couldn’t believe in myself. The clinical team is amazing, I’m forever grateful for Warren, Bob, and Mike, Three counselors that are willing to bend over backwards for their clients. Any issues i encountered during my stay, were immediately handled by the clinical director Joseph Sass, He does an extraordinary job overseeing the facility and putting the clients needs first. I recommend Avenues recovery center to anyone struggling with addiction, and ready to start a better life.
